Metiquette

Metiquette Word For The Day: www.Metiquette.com

Within a few hours of this post, the domain name www.metiquette.com should be working.
This will help with search engine optimization and ease of remembering how to get back here.
I will enjoy seeing you back here to read interesting posts about Metadata Etiquette and to join in the discussion on how to better use metadata in your everyday life.

I know I have been gone for a long time. I have moved and been under the weather. Hopefully the gap won't be as long. I'm also looking forward to some guest writers filling in to help you understand what metadata and metiquette is all about and what it can mean to you.

Metadata ~ Data About Data

Metiquette Word For The Day: Metadata

Metadata is most commonly called "data about data'. Another way of putting it is 'information about information'.

I enjoy the study of metadata and how to get the most out of metadata. The more one can effectually use metadata, the more efficient one can find wanted information and select which data might be better choses than others depending on your needs and situation.

This is the first entry for this second go around with metiquette.blogspot.com. I attempted this blog once before. For reasons I could never quite find out, that attempt was shutdown without my request or wishes. This name became available again so I'm at it one more time. I have plenty to say and learn as I go, but I am limited with the time I can set aside for this project.

As far as I can see into the future, metadata and how it is useful with the Internet will be the types of metadata discussed on this blog. With this in mind, this lesson about metadata is explained by generating examples of general Internet information about you. If you look at the bottom of this blog you will see some metadata about where you are located on the Internet and how you are connected. I will explain each entry in future posts.

Many terms and ideas will be discussed here. I started trying to find definitions to metadata related terms and sorting them out on a couple of other websites. Several of these terms can be found on Semantic Web Searching. I have plans of updating Semantic Web Searching as I cover the listed terms on the site and as I continue adding terms and categories such as text, audio, location, video, etc. Currently, as I write this post, Semantic Web Searching sits somewhat alone and need of some TLC. That being said, the W3C finds enough valuable information on Semantic Web Searching to place a link to the site on their Ontology Dowsing page.

Until next time, I will enjoy seeing you back here to read interesting posts about Metadata Etiquette and to join in the discussion.
